Last August, 14 Egyptian students stepped onto a plane that brought them more than 7,000 miles to Sacramento. They landed in this melting pot of people and cultures and were met with the hard reality that the American Dream is not always within reach. In light of an economic downturn and cut classes, they’ve had to adapt, settle for less and scramble to meet the requirements of their Fulbright Scholarships, taking up to 20 units per semester at two or more Los Rios campuses. They were seeking opportunity in the land that, according to history, was made for it. But did they find it?
