Students at City College use many modes of transportation. Whether you ride, drive, push or pedal, your green friendly or gas-guzzling transportation says a lot about you.

Brittney Nicholls finds skateboarding from the parking garage to class easier and faster than walking. “I’ve skateboarded since I was a kid. It’s fun, it’s a family tradition and I’ve had this board since I was 12.”

Barbara Carri has been riding her motorcycle for 28 years. “Driving a car here would drive me nuts. I can find parking here, at work or downtown.” Miranda Van Atta drives her Nissan.

Titan truck, “Poseidon,” to and from school. “I don’t park in the parking garage because it doesn’t wanna fit. I have a lot of space in the back. It’s like lockable storage.”

Gwen Colbert takes an hour bus ride to attend her ballet and human sexuality classes on the City College campus. “It keeps you on time. You have a set time to get somewhere. It gives you study time and time to relax when you get here.”

As an alternative to the bus, Colbert cites her nameless bicycle as her preferred transportation. “I’d rather bike instead. It’s green and easier to get around; you can change between being a pedestrian and a vehicle.”

Paloma Huntington drives her Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Purchased six years ago to navigate through her daily life in Utah and Washington, it has it’s share of glitches. “I have to hit my CD player or it won’t play.”

Keith Gagomiros, a field biologist, rides his Segway as an alternative to exacerbating his back injury received in a car accident several years ago. “It’s got some lovely scratches and a busted handle. It’s an original Generation One, the cheapest you can get.”

“Segway Dude,” as Gagomiros is aptly titled, uses the light rail to supplement his cruising.

Mike Cole, patrolman for the Los Rios Police Department, has seen his share of vehicles. “There has been a few nice Mercedes, a few nice Chargers, and there’s always Sergeant Washington’s ’68 Goat [GTO].”
